BSA Award confirms Raynor Foods’ reputation as one of the most innovative gluten free food suppliers

Raynor Foods were delighted to win the British Sandwich Association’s 2017 Technical Excellence Award at the ‘Sammies’ on 11th May.  The Sammies are the sandwich industry Oscars. They recognise excellence and innovation in the Food to Go market. This market is worth a staggering £20 billion to the UK economy. 

The Award was for Raynors’ work to develop a range of gluten free tortillas, in partnership with Green Gourmet. Raynors already enjoy a reputation for the quality of their sandwiches, their production processes and their technical expertise. This is the third time they have won the Technical Excellence award.

Partnership working pays off

NPD Manager, Debbie Shand, won the award in partnership with Lynda Breeds of Green Gourmet. Green Gourmet are a Raynor Foods customer who supply frozen products to the Travel and Education sectors.  Debbie and Lynda worked together to make gluten free tortilla wraps from scratch, as the basis for a range of gluten free burritos, suitable for anyone to eat. 

As Raynors is already established as one of the leading gluten free food suppliers, with a wider range of gluten free sandwiches and gluten free snacks than many, Green Gourmet came to them for help to make their idea a reality. 

Debbie Shand said,

“The project was challenging as we had a very tight brief, and quite a restricted timescale in which to deliver the finished product.  We started from scratch – installed new equipment, developed new procedures and tested over and over again, until we were sure that we could produce a top-quality gluten free product that would satisfy our customers’ demanding tastes.  It was a lot of work, and there were a number of technical issues that had to be resolved, but our close working relationship meant we managed to deliver on time. I am so pleased that the BSA has recognised our work.”
