Intense™ Tomatoes were already on the market. They were selectively bred (not genetically modified) to have thicker cellular walls than normal tomatoes. They were intended for use in the pizza industry where people were noticing that tomatoes were causing soggy pizzas.
Tom Hollands spotted the tomatoes and realised that a soggy pizza was no more welcome than a soggy sandwich. That was in 2009. We were the first sandwich company in the country to use Intense™ tomatoes. They don’t leak juice in your sandwich, have a great red colour (never green and unripe) and taste fantastic!
