History

As you would expect of a business which involves more than one generation of the same family, Raynors places great importance on its reputation, not merely as a provider of excellent sandwiches, rolls and salads, but also as an operator of impeccable integrity and enterprise.

Our story begins with Ray and Rosemary Raynor setting up their business in NovemberThis is the first sandwich factory that Raynors built in 1988 in Chelmsford 1988.  Under the umbrella of the Mid-Essex Enterprise Agency Ray and Rosemary built a production unit in Navigation Road in Chelmsford.  Run very much as a commercial kitchen (Ray and Rosemary came straight from their own successful restaurant) the quality of the sandwiches they were producing stood head and shoulders above anything on the market at the time, and they were quickly contracted to supply local supermarket chains and paper shops.

In 1991 Raynors were among the first companies  to join the British Sandwich Association as a full producer member, fully endorsing the standards laid down by this august body, in an effort to raise the quality and reputation of the industry as a whole.

As the company continued to grow they took on many customers and in 1997 found themselves as an approved sandwich supplier to the NHS.  Raynors are proud to still be on the NHS Supplies tender today, offering their unparalleled levels of quality and service to hospitals and other public sector outlets to this day.

Raynor Foods Sandwichporium at Farrow Road, ChelmsfordWith the continued growth of Raynors, came the need for investment in both their facilities and staff, and in 2005 we moved to new premises in Farrow Road in Chelmsford.  This new production facility brought new vigour to the company triggering a period of rapid expansion – still all the time maintaining the principles of quality and service upon which the company was founded 17 years previously.

In 2008, our founder was forced to take a back seat in the business for a while as Ray recovered from a number of niggling illnesses.  Rallying round, the Raynors and their extended family promoted Ray and Rosemary’s son, Matt Raynor to managing director and  a new generation of sandwich makers was born.

The Raynor family with their new range of premium sandwiches.2010 brought to Raynors new heights of success as they were awarded both Sandwich Manufacturer of the Year and supplier to the Royal Household at Buckingham Palace.
